Elizabeth’s Half Marathon Challenge!

On 25th May, Elizabeth Wood will be competing in the Half Marathon at Edinburgh Marathon Festival to raise money for The Royal British Legion Women’s Section.

Elizabeth WoodElizabeth, a 20 year-old from County Durham, has been running since the age of 9 when she joined Shildon Running & Athletic Club. She has competed in running events at local and national level, including representing the North East Counties at the UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships and World Trials. Last year she was the Senior Girls 3000m Champion at the Durham County Schools competitions and came third on the cross country team at the English Schools Championships.

Last year Elizabeth ran her first Half Marathon in the Lake District and came 1st in the under-20’s category. The course was very hilly but she still managed to complete it in 1 hour 44 minutes.

Not only is Elizabeth a talented long distance runner, she is also the 5th generation in her family to be a member of the Women’s Section.

The Edinburgh Marathon Festival is Scotland’s largest running event and Elizabeth will be joined by around 300,000 runners raising money for their nominated charities.
