2014 marks 100 years since the start of the First World War. Belper Royal British Legion, Women’s Section, Club and Branch were eager to commemorate the centenary in a fitting manner. They set to work ploughing an enormous ‘WW1’ on a hillside in Belper, which was then planted with Poppy seeds.

Belper WW1 CollectionThe ‘WW1’ already looks very impressive, and come summer the poppies will bloom creating a vision in red, distinguishable for miles around!

Collection jars have also been strategically placed around Belper, for spare pennies to be donated towards an Oak tree to be planted at The Memorial Garden in King Street, Belper.
